ATTORNEY AT LAW
Thuy Le (pronounced Twee Lee) believes that a good defense attorney is one who understands her community and the issues affecting that community. She fights for the civil rights, liberties, and freedoms afforded to all Americans.
Before going to law school, she was at CNN In Washington DC before transitioning to help victims of human trafficking and violence.
She first started her career as a prosecutor in the Galveston and Harris County District Attorney’s Office before starting her own criminal defense practice. Her criminal defense work with a 12-year-old rape victim was profiled in a series of Pulitzer-nominated news articles.
Thuy is a mentor for the youth—helping high school students from the Acres Homes robotics team with their public speaking and writing skills.
She also works with the Upward Bound and UH Pipeline program helping first-generation students from underrepresented communities succeed academically and socially in college and law school.
Thuy is a former board and executive committee member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and is one of the founders of the Diversity, Justice, and Inclusion Committee. She is also one of the founding members of the largest defense bar mentoring program that sends lawyers to Atlanta to get trained with Gideon’s
Promise.
She continues her advocacy for defending the civil and constitutional rights of those charged as a committee member of the Texas State Bar Criminal Justice Section.
She’s the former vice president of the Harris County Criminal Lawyer’s Association.
Thuy is an avid traveler and has been to more than 47 countries and territories. She spends her spare time napping with her dog, Ginger
.

• 2013
In 2013, Thuy opened her own law firm to defend the rights of people in criminal and juvenile cases. In private practice, and throughout her legal career, Thuy has been committed to advancing justice for the poor, women, and children affected by the criminal justice system. Her extremely successful work has repeatedly caught the attention of the local news media.
• 2014
In 2014, Thuy provided free representation to a 12-year-old rape victim who was trying to keep her baby out of the foster care system. Thuy won that fight for her client and was able get the young mother and her baby adopted by a loving teacher and her husband. Thuy’s former client is now in college studying medicine. Thuy’s advocacy for the young mother and her fight against an abusive legal system was documented in a series of Pulitzer Prize nominated stories in the Houston Chronicle. Click here for article.
• 2019
In 2019, Thuy represented--without charge--a woman assaulted by the current judge in County Criminal Court at Law #10. The State Commission on Judicial Conduct, which oversees Texas judges, publicly admonished the incumbent, Judge Wilson, for his lack of judicial demeanor and said his conduct “cast public discredit upon the judiciary”. The Commission’s decision to admonish the incumbent subsequently was upheld on appeal. Click here for article.
• 2021
In 2021, Thuy fought for the rights of two Chinese immigrant parents falsely accused of abusing their child. Thuy proved that the child’s injuries were not caused by abuse, but by a medical condition and that the parents had been falsely accused based on racial stereotypes. Click here for article.
Besides her courtroom accomplishments, Thuy believes in serving her community. She is currently a board member, and the first board member of Asian descent, of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association (TCDLA). TCDLA is the nation’s largest state criminal defense bar. As a board member, Thuy created a statewide mentoring program for young lawyers. The program eventually expanded and now sends young lawyers who are committed to indigent defense, for training at the award winning Gideon’s Promise program in Atlanta.
The Committee supports lawyers from historically underrepresented groups and teaches them to be successful in the legal profession. The Committee also trains lawyers across the State on race and racial bias in the criminal justice system.
Thuy’s volunteer work is not limited to human beings. She fosters stray dogs and cats for animal shelters and trains them in skills that improve their chances for adoption. In her spare time, Thuy enjoys traveling and has visited more than 40 countries and territories. Thuy attends Ecclesia Church.
